Hi All,

I am again that 'another IT professional' from 'The Great Indian IT industry'.

Please don’t feel dishearten if my metaphors are hurting you guys but I can't control it anymore. I have been a part of this industry for more than 2 years now. Like everyone else I too joined TCS with a lot of dreams n expectations in my mind. Like everyone else I too wanted to use technologies to enhance life of others. Like everyone else I too wanted to earn money as well as fame for making this world a better place to live in. and finally like everyone else after some time in the industry all my dreams scattered like the pearls of a broken chain. Even now when I retrospect it make me feel wet eyes. Frankly speaking no one in 'The Great Indian IT industry' can say that they are in IT industry rather everyone will agree that they are actually working in a garbage collection company which collects garbage work from US/UK clients and states that we are in global top 10 IT companies league. Yes, you guess it right I am focussing on TCS. Being an active part of this largest IT Company of Asia I want all of you to have some insight in the working of TCS. TCS is not famous in its client as the largest IT company of Asia or the best company to work in (as TCS always claims to be the best employer of India) rather TCS is famous for the cheapest company which can do any type of work at a very cheap price and will abide by all their regulations without even considering any inconvenience it may cause to its own employees. We in TCS do all the garbage work which no other company wants to do like call centre type production support, Documentation, Audit reporting to name a few. It’s not that like that these clients doesn’t have good technical/consultancy work but these type of whole work is being done by truly consulting companies like Accenture, IBM, EDS etc. Although as per name TCS (Tata Consultancy Services) is also a consultancy company but you will never find this company in any consultancy project.

I am not against the Indian development in any case but I do feel that we as an Indian can do much better than what these companies are providing with. We are one of best minds in the world but what we are doing is not the best work, definitely. I want to change this and everything related to it.

I am not saying that this IT industry has not given anything to us but now it’s the time to change the philosophy of it. In a time when US is said to be going through recession when Indian IT companies should actually come up with a strong competitor of big IT giants, Indian IT failed to get the advantage. Every company is repeating the same words, client is not willing to pay but they should go to the next level of industry and ask their big clients for the bigger project which they are doing with IBM, Accenture etc and provide them a competitive rates. In this way they not even sustain their old small projects rather they could also get a pie of big IT projects. But no one especially TCS is seems to pay heed to this advice from different experts. In fact Infy n Satyam have started to try out the big consulting area and they are also getting little success over there.

Another biggest problem TCS and other Indian companies are facing is the quality HR and attrition. Now looking this issue at a deeper level, the question arises why one person would leave job in TCS and join another company. Firstly, at a time when Inflation in India is at its peak TCS has started cutting salaries and have started several measures to get more money from their employees like increasing Transport charges for office buses etc. The amount of money TCS has deducted from the salary may be very less but it will definitely leads to insecurity and less satisfaction. Persons having good capabilities would rather join another company. Another reason is that although these big Indian companies says that ‘Respect for Individual’ is in their values they will never respect you as an individual, in fact you will be treated as another Employee Id. Companies having much more human resources will treat you more respectfully and thus more satisfaction in their employees. Although Tata group is famous for their ethics, TCS on the other hand uses all ‘unethical’ measures to get advantage from their employees. In no other IT company you can find timings for coffee machine working and go through a workflow process to get as small thing as Rs 5.00/- pen. I don’t understand how much money a $5b company would save from saving a 5 rupee pen. They will call their employees on Saturdays and Sundays in case of extra work but won’t start the ACs in the office because there are not enough employees in the office to recover the AC running cost, now imagine the mind set of that person who has ruined his weekends to get the work done for TCS and in return he has to work in the office without even AC on.

It is not my frustration about TCS or any other IT companies but it is the truth behind the scene.

I have already left IT industry for my higher education.

Best of luck for everybody.

Yet Another Software Engineer.

Nice to get the TOP view of the world ,called "IT".Interestingly, just for the sake of argument,if I take the other view point and say, what about the millions of Job opportunities which TXX has provided to millions, what about the other similar numbers of indirect jobs, what about the empowerment it has brought to the common man's children!!

I know here the discussion is at higher level, where we are talking about "value" thing. But my whole idea of taking this view is-that will help many of the wise people to understand the minute distinction. And they better evalute themselves rather than getting a poor bargain.

Thnx for ur valuable comments. The thing I wanted to discuss here was the direct opportunities provided by IT industry. Yes I completely agree that industry has provided jobs for lakhs of people and more than thru indirect channels. My basic point was to highlight to main business line and work culture of these companies.

Open for comments......
