Indian Software industry has been a remarkable success story. It has grown at an average rate of twenty percent annually over the last 20 years. Indian companies serve more than 60 countries and two third of Fortune 500 companies. Indian companies quickly moved up the IT value chain, from low cost programming to high end services like software development in various fields. India is leveraging its huge talent base and low cost alternative to effectively catapult to the epitome of software space. Evolving business dynamics with the entry of new countries is posing new set of problems and opportunities to India. This paper discusses India’s competitiveness with that of China, Philippines, Ireland, Malaysia and Sri Lanka. It also encompasses new avenues of growth in high end segment and consolidating its existing avenues.
